Seven BC students are National Merit Finalists

Filed in BCHS, Student Spotlight by on February 15, 2019

Seven Bethlehem Central High School seniors have been named as finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship (NMS) Competition. They are:

  • Govind Chari
  • Jack Diligent
  • Liam Karl
  • Evin Mattupurath
  • Olivia Namkoong
  • Ethan Royka
  • Margaret Sui

The same students had qualified as National Merit Semifinalists last fall, based on their performance on the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Only 16,000 students nationwide, out of the 1.6 million students who were eligible, received the honor.

Now, as National Merit finalists, these academically talented students have opportunities to compete for 7,500 National Merit awards and scholarships. A panel of judges will review the students’ academic records, recommendations, student essays as well as extracurricular activities and work experience to determine scholarship winners. Those winners will be notified beginning in May.

Good luck and congratulations once again to Govind, Jack, Liam, Evin, Olivia, Ethan and Margaret on their academic achievements and qualification as National Merit Scholar finalists!
