Slingerlands Garden Volunteers

Filed in Archive by on September 30, 2016

Last fall, with funding from a Bethlehem Central Community Foundation, the Slingerlands garden was started!!  With the help of some Slingerlands families and Middle School Assistant Principal, Mark Warford, our garden boxes were built.  It was filled with soil and ready for planting in the Spring.

When Spring arrived, fencing was put up and first grade students helped transplant lettuce that had been grown from seed indoors at the Middle School.

When the lettuce was ready, it was harvested and donated to the food pantry at the Bethlehem Town Hall!

This summer, the fencing was reinforced with much stronger wooden posts, and new planting was done!  Two beds of beets were planted and are near ready to be harvested.  These beets will be purchased by The Garden Bistro, along with vegetables from the other BC gardens, and used in their menu items.

Green beans were also planted and harvested last week.  These were, again, donated to the Bethlehem Town Hall food pantry, to help our BC families!!

If you like to volunteer to help in the spring, please let Mrs. MacMillan know – pmacmillan@bcsd.neric.org
