Slingerlands heads to South Pole for One School, One Book
On Friday, January 5, Slingerlands Elementary School unveiled this year’s choice for its One School, One Book program in which the entire school community will read the same book. This year, it will be Adventures of a South Pole Pig: A novel of snow and courage by Chris Kurtz. The book, which takes readers to Antartica, is about a pig named Flora who longs to be a sled dog. Flora’s story has engaged many young readers who have dreamed of exploring the great beyond.
In announcing the book selection to students, Principal Heidi Bonacquist and several teachers made a colorful entrance as a sled dog (and pig) team. Each student in grades K-5 was given a packet that included the chapter book, an important bookmark and some special keepsakes to commemorate the kick off of One School, One Book.
