Spring Recycle Fest is Saturday, April 8

Once again, the Bethlehem Central School District Green Team will co-sponsor a community-wide recycling event. The Spring Recycle Fest is Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elm Avenue Park. The event is open to all area residents. Textile and book recycling is free. Free shredding is limited to Town of Bethlehem residents and BCSD taxpayers only. Electronics, appliances and scrap metals recycling is $5/car donation to the BCHS Environmental Club.

What will be collected?


  • Clothing and other Textiles for Reuse and Recycling
  • Fabric, Yarn & Sewing Supplies for Reuse (NEW THIS YEAR!)
  • Document Shredding/Paper Recycling*
  • Hard Cover and Paperback Books for Reuse and Recycling
  • Electronics, Appliances & Scrap Metals for Recycling*
  • Plastic Toys for Reuse and Recycling*

*New this year:

  • Please note:  NO TVs or Monitors for this year
  • Plastic toys- donations of good toys/recycling of all other plastic toys
  • Sewing & Knitting supplies, thanks to a late addition of a new local non-profit called Up-Stitch. 

When?


  • Saturday, April 8, 2017
  • 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Arrive no later than 12:40 pm)

  • Event is open to all area residents!

Cost


  • Electronics, appliances and scrap metals recycling is $5/car donation to BCHS Environmental Club.
  • All other drop-offs for reuse, recycling and shredding is FREE.

  • Secure shredding limited to Town of Bethlehem residents and BCSD taxpayers with ID only.
  • Shredding limit: 3 medium sized boxes per household. COSTS: **Electronics, appliances and scrap metals recycling is $5/car donation to BCHS Environmental Club; All other drop-offs for reuse, recycling and shredding is FREE. OTHER NOTES: Books will be collected for reuse or recycling by Grassroot Givers; monetary donations will also be gratefully accepted.
  • Fabric, yarn & sewing supplies will be collected for reuse by Up-Stitch. Plastic toys will be sorted for reuse or recycling.
  • Do you need assistance transporting your documents for shredding to the event? If you are over age 60 and a Town resident, Bethlehem Senior Transportation may be able to help with home pickup of documents for shredding on this day (but not with other materials). For more information or to schedule a pre-arranged pickup time, please call 439-4955, extension 1176.
  • A “Paper for Paper” drive is also being conducted. Please consider a paper product or monetary donation to The Bethlehem Food Pantry.

Acceptable Items


CLOTHING, TEXTILES & FOOTWEAR

  • ALL types of clothing, fabric, household textiles, stuffed animals, belts, hats, gloves, purses, bags, backpacks, footwear. OK if worn, stained, dam-aged, missing buttons or zippers, etc!
  • NO wet, smelly, or contaminated items.
  • NO carpets, mattresses, or loose stuffing.

 

FABRIC, YARN & SEWING SUPPLIES

  • Fabrics of all types and sizes, yarn, thread, sewing notions and tools, pins, buttons, elastic , trims, rib-bon, lace, knitting needles, crochet hooks, sewing and knitting books, patterns.
  • NO mildew, pet or mothball odors.

BOOKS

  • Hard cover
  • Paperback

TOYS

  • Hard plastic toys in OK condition only.

DOCUMENTS FOR SHREDDING

  • Limited to three (3) boxes.
  • Shredding only available to Town of Bethlehem residents and BCSD taxpayers.

Unacceptable


  • NO TVs or Computer Monitors this year due to increased costs. TVs/Monitors are still accepted at the Town Transfer Station.
  • NO Batteries
  • NO Fluorescent bulbs
  • NO Toxic or Hazardous Materials
  • NOTE: Many of these items can be disposed of at the Town of Bethlehem’s Household Hazardous Waste Day, Saturday, May 6, 8 am—1 pm. www.townofbethlehem.org for details.
