Filed in BCHS, District, District News by on January 28, 2019

The district has been investigating a physical altercation that took place during the third quarter of the boys’ basketball game vs. Averill Park on Friday, Jan. 25 in which two players – one from Bethlehem and one from Averill Park – were ejected from the game.

The players each received an automatic one-game suspension from play. Bethlehem school officials are also following disciplinary procedures in accordance with the school’s Code of Conduct related to this incident.

The fight, which began on the court, moved to the corner of the gymnasium beside the bleachers before being broken up, according to reports. The district’s ongoing investigation includes review of security footage, team videos, interviews with team members and coaching staff, and the game official’s report of the incident.

“We are concerned and disappointed to see this kind of behavior unfold during a game,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “We hold all student-athletes to the highest standards of sportsmanship, good judgment, and personal responsibility.

“We continue to work with our athletics office and high school leaders to examine what happened on Friday night and are prepared to take additional follow-up action as needed,” said Monroe.
