The following is a community message from the Town of Bethlehem. The town employs school crossing guards and is seeking qualified candidates:
The Town of Bethlehem is seeking candidates to work as Substitute School Crossing Guards. These substitute positions would be used to fill open shifts, as needed. Primary duties/knowledge include the following:
- Direct or escort pedestrian students across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.
- Guide or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
- Communicate traffic, crossing rules, and other information to students and adults.
- Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using signs and hand signals.
- Have basic knowledge of traffic control devices; signs, traffic lights, etc.
- Learn the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned areas.
- Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can cross streets.
The preferred candidate will have a flexible schedule with the ability to work weekdays 7:30 AM-9:30AM and 2:30 PM-4:00 PM, as needed. No night or weekend work.
