Update Apr. 6: Schools to remain closed until April 29

Filed in District, District News by on April 6, 2020

The following is a message from Superintendent Jody Monroe:

Dear BC family,

As you may have heard, Governor Andrew Cuomo today extended the statewide school closure another two weeks, until April 29. Our schools will remain closed during this time to comply with the order and to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Students will continue with online instruction every day, Monday-Friday, until April 29 as directed by the state of New York. This includes the original April Break week of April 13-17 and the April 10 Good Friday holiday. Our school buildings will only reopen by order of the governor and with the guidance of public health officials.

Free breakfast and lunch for children 18 and younger will also continue during this time, with a condensed pick up schedule for this week only.

Also today, the New York state Board of Regents announced its intention to cancel this year’s Regents exams. The official announcement is expected Tuesday, April 7. Once we have reviewed guidance from the State Education Department we will be able to share more information with families on how this will impact students.

We understand how difficult this situation has been for our students and for families. We continue to have resources available on our website including child care for essential workers in the community, and links to important mental health resources and contact information for our school counselors, social workers and other professionals who are available to answer questions or lend support.

With the sun shining it makes it easier to believe everything, in time, will be better. We will get there and we will get there together. Thank you for your continued support, your understanding and your strength.

Sincerely,

Jody Monroe

Superintendent
