Update Mar. 19: School buildings to close Friday, 3p

Filed in District, District News by on March 19, 2020

A message from Superintendent Jody Monroe:

Dear BC families:

As you know, the Bethlehem Central School District continues to closely monitor the evolving public health emergency surrounding COVID-19/Coronavirus. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Bethlehem Central School District, however, we are continuing to follow all directives and guidance from federal, state and local officials as we work together to limit the spread of the virus.

I have heard from so many in our school community who have shared expressions of gratitude for our faculty and staff who are responding to this unprecedented situation with brave faces and positive attitudes as they find new ways to connect with students. It is a team effort here, one that is helping children to stay fed, buildings to be cared for and technology issues to be resolved quickly. Most importantly, thousands of BC families have found a sense of calm and reassurance in the teachers who are reaching out to students on a regular basis providing some sense of normalcy in this anything but normal time.

I am always proud of this group of people, but never so much as I am right now.

As a reminder to families, schools will remain closed through March 31. All of our buildings, with the exception of the high school, will be closed to all persons for a period of at least 10 days, beginning Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m. At the high school, operations are being condensed and we will have a small number of essential workers who will be working to keep the most essential functions of the district going. This includes meals for children who may need them, tech support for staff and students with district-owned devices, as well as other critical district-level business. The school itself will be closed to visitors.

Please note that our playgrounds and playing fields are also off-limits as we do our part as a community to encourage social distancing. Gates have been closed and signs have gone up in an effort to keep groups from gathering. As hard as it may be, please remind your children how vitally important it is to maintain a safe distance from one another.

Meal pickup continues Monday through Friday for children who may need breakfast and lunch.

I will continue to provide updates as often as possible. Please know that if you have any questions you can email me at Thank you for your continued support of the Bethlehem Central School District.
