Update May 1: Schools to remain closed until the end of the year

Filed in Archive, District, District News by on May 1, 2020

Dear BC families:

As you may know by now, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that all schools statewide will remain closed for the rest of the school year. While we have been expecting this news, it is still somewhat hard to process, and the thought of not seeing our students again this year is painful.

Our immediate plan for the rest of the 2019-20 school year is to continue to maintain instruction and services as we have been doing since March:

The last date of classes for students will be determined with additional guidance from New York state.

Planning for alternative end-of-year celebratory events for our Bethlehem students is ongoing and details of those plans will be communicated to families as they are finalized. We have also begun a process for retrieving and organizing student personal items so they can be returned to families before the end of the school year. This information will be shared with families as soon as we have a schedule for distribution.

I will be continuing regular communications with families in the weeks ahead, but if you have any specific questions, please email districtoffice@bethlehemschools.org and we will do our best to answer your questions.

The abrupt end to the traditional school year back in March took us all by surprise. However, it has been incredible to watch our students, staff and families rise to meet the challenge of teaching and learning from home. It has been equally reassuring to know that the core values we emphasize at school are alive and well. There is no better example of a commitment to these values than this message from the senior class at the high school.

As we head into the weekend, please accept my deepest gratitude for your support, your hard work and your patience as we work together for a better, stronger BC.

Sincerely,

Jody Monroe

Superintendent
