Walk to School Day is Oct. 2 at Slingerlands

Filed in Slingerlands by on September 24, 2019

Slingerlands Elementary School will participate in Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 2.

We hope you will walk to school with your child and enjoy the health benefits of this leisure activity. Please join us in the back of the school at 8:50 a.m. for an activity with our PE teachers. We ask that all children have a parent with them.

You will be notified by 8:30 a.m. via Aspen if the event is canceled due to inclement weather.

Parents are encouraged to join their children on a walk or bike to school. If possible wear bright and/or reflective clothing (or Bethlehem orange spirit wear!). When walking, remember to:

  • walk-on sidewalks if available,
  • use crosswalks whenever possible, and
  • walk on the LEFT-hand side of the road facing traffic if no sidewalks are available.

When biking:

  • wear a helmet,
  • ride on the RIGHT side of the road, and
  • always stop and watch for traffic when entering roadway (starting at your own driveway).

Parents, please ensure all bikers (including yourselves) are wearing helmets since the event is about safety awareness.
