When the school bus just won’t do

Filed in Archive, Eagle by on February 28, 2020

If you happened to spot a large, armored vehicle pulling up to Eagle Elementary School on Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, you’re eyes were not fooling you. It was hard to miss and the tank-like vehicle hardly blended in with the cars and school buses that were dropping students off for the day.

Instead, it was a special ride to school, made possible by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. One of our second graders, Gavin Connelly, and a group of his friends got to ride in the Sheriff’s special tactical vehicle. The unusual ride to school was one of the many interesting prizes at this year’s Eagle Auction. The tactical unit is on standby for use by law enforcement when an emergency response requires extra protection or when no other vehicle could reach people in need. The tactical vehicle is currently housed at the Albany International Airport but will soon be moving to its permanent home at the Sheriff Department headquarters in Clarksville.
