Bethlehem Central High School junior Laurel Muench’s digital art piece, “La Quinta Pared” (The Fifth Wall), was published in the March 2025 issue of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica magazine, Albricias.
Inspired by a video exploring the concept of the fifth wall in media—an extension of the well-known fourth wall that separates performers from the audience—Muench wanted to convey the mystery of an unseen barrier separating the audience from higher observers. The March edition of Albricias centered around the theme of movie theaters, and Muench thought the concept of the fifth wall was perfect for this theme.
Using Adobe Illustrator, she brought her vision to life. “I wanted to convey the mystery surrounding the idea of the ‘fifth wall’ and make the space beyond it contrast with the setting of the movie theater,” said Muench.
Muench is the first BCHS student to have her digital artwork published by Albricias.
“I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to be published in Albricias and for Profesora Ledezma’s feedback and encouragement,” said Muench.
Congratulations, Laurel!
