On Monday, May 19, the middle school orchestra students had the opportunity to attend a presentation by Irish fiddler Gerry O’Connor, funded by the Bethlehem Music Association.
Orchestra teacher Jody VanVoris worked for nearly a year to make O’Connor’s visit to the middle school a reality. O’Connor was accompanied. by guitarist and vocalist Kevin McElroy. The duo performed and O’Connor answered questions from the students about his music, background and his life in Ireland.
“Having the opportunity to hear and watch master musician Gerry O’Connor share the history of his musical heritage through Traditional Irish Music was a very special treat,” said Van Voris.
