On Dec. 22, high school seniors from Evelyn Ledezma’s Advanced Spanish Honors class visited Eagle Elementary School to share a story of Latin American culture.
In Brynna Wall’s second-grade class, the older students read the book A Piñata in a Pine Tree to the class. The book is a version of the 12 Days of Christmas, featuring Latin American items as gifts (such as tamales, piñatas, and burritos) and was written by Pat Mora.
After the read-aloud, the students (older and younger) extended the lesson with a sequencing activity they did together.
“It was a very sweet experience for all of us,” said Ms. Ledezma. “I loved seeing everyone bond over the story (read by students Zoey Bichteman and Lilly Kahn) and then working together to find out the order of the gifts.”
