Bethlehem High School students in the Advanced Spanish Honors class recently took a break from their regular classrooms to take part in a fully immersive language and cultural experience at UAlbany.
Hosted by the university’s Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures in partnership with the UAlbany in the High School program, Immersion Day brings students to campus for a full day of Spanish-only learning.
Throughout the day, students participated in interactive activities with one another and with students from high schools across New York. The activities are designed to help students grow beyond textbook learning and develop practical speaking skills.
In addition to strengthening language proficiency, the Immersion Day offers students a glimpse into college-level study and campus life, while deepening their appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures.
“Our students got to interact with professors and students of the university’s language department, as well as with students from other high schools, as near as Guilderland and as far as Long Island,” said teacher Evelyn Ledezma. “We had a fantastic day filled with language and culture activities that ended with a salsa dance lesson.”
