The New York State Association for Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) will recognize Bethlehem Central High School Spanish teacher Michael Mitchell with the 2026 President’s Award this fall.
The NYSAFLT President’s award is presented annually to an individual who has been a personal mentor or has demonstrated outstanding service to the organization. In announcing the honor, NYSAFLT President Wendy Mercado noted Mitchell’s significant contributions to the organization and his exemplary dedication, leadership and commitment to world language education.
Mitchell has taught Spanish for 25 years, the past 22 at BC. Throughout his career, he’s helped students develop language proficiency and cultural understanding while also serving as a leader and mentor within the world language education community.
Mitchell will accept the award in October at the NYSAFLT Annual Conference Awards Banquet in Albany.
