Laura is a New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, a two-time winner of both the Caldecott Honor Award and the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award, and winner of the New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award, to name just a few of her accomplishments.

During the visit, Seeger shared her experiences as an author and illustrator with captivated K-5 students. She detailed her creative process, her inspirations for stories and characters, and how she aims to weave each of her stories with a thread of kindness throughout.

Seeger and the students read the books: Bully, GreenBlue and Red together. Students were encouraged to ask questions and were delighted to thoroughly discuss Seeger’s inspiration and approach to writing each one. Seeger also shared videos and music her son composed for some of her books.

Each presentation ended with a lesson on illustration. Enthusiastic students were guided and encouraged to illustrate their own “Bully” character.

Thank you to Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Library Media Specialists; Monica Parmenter, Cailie Hafener, Krissy Welliver and Jaimee Meyer as well as the Slingerlands PTA, Eagle PTO, Hamagrael PTA and Elsmere PTA.
