Bethlehem Central School District faculty and staff officially kicked off the 2025-26 school year today, preparing classrooms and school buildings across the district in anticipation of students’ return on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The day began with an opening session led by Superintendent Jody Monroe, featuring a welcome from Board of Education President Holly Dellenbaugh, introductions of new staff members, and recognition of employees marking career milestones.
Drawing inspiration from completing her first triathlon this summer, Superintendent Monroe reflected on the importance of perseverance and growth. She explained, “Our job is to create the kind of environment where students can discover their strengths and believe in what they’re capable of—even when they’re not sure at first.” She encouraged staff to enter the 2025-26 school year with a “training mindset,” pace themselves, celebrate small wins, and support one another through setbacks.
Superintendent Monroe also took time during her remarks to honor five Bethlehem students (one a recent grad), who saved a man from drowning in August. The superintendent recognized the students not only for their extraordinary courage, but also for the remarkable humility they showed in response to the praise that followed.
Grace Bosworth, Aidan Geis, Lucas Peters, Mikolaj Wloszczynski were in attendance, Dean Palas was unable to attend. The students received a standing ovation.
