Leadership changes for 2026-27 to include principal shift between Elsmere and Slingerlands schools

As planning continues for the 2026-27 school year, several staff appointments and leadership changes are underway. These changes will include a principal leadership transition between Elsmere Elementary School and Slingerlands Elementary School, beginning in the new school year. Andrew Baker will serve as principal of Elsmere, and Kate Kloss will assume the role of principal at Slingerlands.

This leadership transition between the two schools aims to bring fresh perspectives, build upon existing school strengths, deepen collaboration, and establish stronger connections between schools at the elementary level. In total, three elementary schools will have new leadership in the fall as high school principal Dave Doemel assumes the role of principal at Eagle Elementary School, effective July 1.

“Both Andy Baker and Kate Kloss are longtime educators who bring experience and unique talents to the role of principal. Their complementary styles of leadership will serve both schools well,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “We are confident that they will both continue to do what they do best – lead school communities that are dedicated to student success and growth, and to the district’s core values of academics, character, community and wellness.”

Baker, who has been principal of Slingerlands since 2021, is already familiar with the Elsmere school community, having served as interim principal in the 2017-18 school year. Kloss has been principal of Elsmere since 2003 and is the longest-tenured building leader in the district.

Over the coming months, Elsmere, Slingerlands and Eagle will provide opportunities for students, staff and families to connect with their incoming principals.
