BCHS students share stories, culture and cuisine for Hispanic Heritage Month

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, students at Bethlehem High School have been spreading joy, culture and cuisine with their classmates and with younger students across the district.

Members of the high school’s Spanish Honor Society and ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Native American & Allies) club traveled to each of the district’s five elementary schools to read children’s books written by Spanish-speaking authors. The initiative not only promotes literacy and cultural awareness but also builds connections between students of different ages.

At the high school, the Spanish Honor Society hosted its popular annual guacamole competition called Guacachamps. This year’s event took place on Oct. 7 in the cafeteria, with four teams of students making their own special guacamole recipes. The entries were judged by a team of “experts” (BCHS faculty and staff Sean Graney, Heather Culnan, Kim Sparkman, Jess Brown, and Claire Groudine).  For the second year in a row, the Guacachamps was a team including senior James Nalbone, senior Ryan Cheng and junior Sean Doyle (pictured below).
