Girls basketball team is Section 2 champion

On Monday, Mar. 9, the Bethlehem Central varsity girls basketball team defeated Troy 58-56 to win the Section 2 Class AA Championship. Junior Ella McCarthy hit a last-second shot to secure the win for the Eagles.

It is the first conference championship for the team in 11 years.

Senior Makaya McCann was named the Section 2 Class AA tournament’s most valuable player and sophomore Elizabeth Kearney was named a tournament all-star.

On Friday, Mar. 13, the Bethlehem team will face Section 3 Champion Oswego in the New York State regional finals. The game will be played at Hudson Valley Community College at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to Friday’s game are $9.40 and are available online. Admission is free for children 12 and under (must be accompanied by an adult).
