Slingerlands Arrival and Dismissal 2020-21

Filed in Slingerlands by on September 11, 2020

As you all know by now, the key words for the school year are FLEXIBILITY, PATIENCE AND FLUIDITY!!!  Keep this in mind at arrival and dismissal time!  This is our best thinking at this time!

Through the Transportation Survey, you were able to identify what your family plan is for arrival and dismissal – walking, biking, bus or parent pick up. We have used this information to create a plan that is safe for our students and will be as efficient as possible. As we have a large number of people driving their children, we have developed a plan that will allow us to move you through the parking lot as efficiently as possible. Since we have never done this before we will likely make adjustments to the plan as we go along.

These instructions are also described below:

ARRIVAL

Buses, Walkers, bus riders

9:05 a.m. to 9:10 a.m.

  • Children will be dismissed from the buses in a safe, purposeful manner
  • Children will enter as many different doors as possible (with direction from staff)
  • If your child is walking or riding their bike, you need to time their arrival so they arrive between 9:05-9:10.  Children will not be allowed on school grounds until this time.

Parent Drop Off

9:20 a.m.

  • Car traffic will come down Union Ave from the direction of Orchard St. toward Kenwood and pull in to the entrance closest to the school. if you try to enter from the wrong direction, you will be directed to continue up Union Ave to join the end of the line coming down the hill. Buses will approach the school from Kenwood to Union Ave.
  • We will let cars in the parking lot at about 9:15 a.m. after the buses have departed.
  • Cars will drive around the front curve and to the back. I will then allow 4-5 cars to let kids out at a time. Adults will stay in the car and children will exit the right side of the car – just like in the Kiss and Go Lane. Children should be able to do this independently. Please practice this. This will help this go faster. Kids will be directed to enter the school using a variety of doors. There will be many staff members inside and outside assisting students.
  • All traffic MUST make a right onto Union Ave as they exit the parking lot.

    DISMISSAL

    Parent Pick Up

    2:50 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.

    • Car traffic will come down Union Ave from the direction of Orchard St. toward Kenwood and will pull in to the entrance closest to the school. if you try to enter from the wrong direction, you will be directed to continue up Union Ave to join the end of the line coming down the hill. Buses will approach the school from Kenwood to Union Ave. and come into the parking lot closest to the school.
    • At 2:50 -You will enter the school lot through the entrance furthest from the school. Mrs. Neri will be there to greet you.
    • At this time you will display the colored placard that has your child’s name and a number on it.  These will be given to you on the 14th and 15th when you come through the line for the first time. You will receive 2 of these. If you come without it and Mrs. Neri does not recognize you, you will be asked to find a parking spot and go to the front door so Mrs. Whalen can assist you.
    • Mrs. Neri will radio your information into the school so your child will be ready to meet you when you arrive in the back of the parking lot.
    • You will continue driving through the parking lot  to the back.  There will be staff assisting children as they look for you.  You will need to assist your child with their car seat and seatbelt. We need to move as efficiently as possible to move the cars through to get ready for the buses to pull in to the back at 3:15.

          Children Taking the Bus

          3:20 p.m.

          • We will dismiss kids who are taking the bus at 3:20. We will do this in a staggered fashion to minimize the number of kids getting on the bus at the same time.

          Bikers/Walkers

          3:25 p.m.

          • If your child is walking or riding their bike, they will be escorted out of the building, and if needed, across the crosswalks in the parking lot.  You can expect them at about 3:25.
          • If you are meeting your child, we ask that you wait on the sidewalk on Union Ave.  Please social distance.

          School’s Out

          • K-1 teachers will walk kids to the cafeteria.
          • Grades 2-5 will go to the cafeteria when kids are dismissed for the bus
