Eagle Elementary

On September 28, 2020, the BCSD Operations and Maintenance staff collected water samples at all school buildings in the district, including Eagle. These were collected as part of regularly scheduled testing for lead levels in water potentially used for drinking or cooking. The testing is required by New York State for all public schools and was last conducted in the district in 2016 when the water testing law first took effect.

In accordance with the law, samples from 34 water outlets at Eagle were tested. These samples included water fountains that have been taken out of service due to COVID safety precautions. All samples were sent to a state-approved laboratory to test lead levels. District officials received the water test results from this laboratory on October 2, 2020.

One location at Eagle Elementary School showed elevated lead levels exceeding the “action level” of 15 parts per billion (ppb):

  • Dishwashing sink (#4) located in the school’s kitchen

The sink was immediately taken out of service. Staff will be using alternate sinks for pre-rinsing as repairs are made to the affected source. The remediated source will be tested and confirmed to be below the action level prior to returning it to active service.
