Important Hamagrael leadership update from Superintendent Jody Monroe…
Dear Hamagrael Families,
I am writing to share an important update about the upcoming school year. Current Hamagrael Principal Ian Knox has requested a one-year leave of absence to pursue a professional opportunity outside the district. I have granted his request, and his leave will begin on August 28, 2026.
Heather Culnan will serve as interim principal of Hamagrael Elementary School for the 2026-27 school year. Ms. Culnan is a longtime Bethlehem Central administrator with 14 years of experience as an assistant principal at Bethlehem Central High School.
Ms. Culnan is highly regarded for her leadership, dedication to students and commitment to creating a positive, welcoming school environment. While her recent administrative experience has been at the secondary level, she began her career as an elementary educator, teaching third and fourth grade in the South Colonie Central School District. She is excited to return to the elementary level and looks forward to becoming part of the Hamagrael community.
I understand that a change in school leadership so close to the start of the school year may create some uncertainty. I want to assure you that the district will provide the support needed to make this transition as smooth as possible for staff and, most importantly, for students.
Hamagrael has a dedicated and collaborative faculty and staff who are deeply committed to creating a cohesive, inclusive and welcoming school community. I am confident that, together with Ms. Culnan, they will provide a strong foundation for a successful 2026-27 school year.
Please watch for additional information about Ms. Culnan’s transition to Hamagrael to be shared via ParentSquare. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at jmonroe@bethlehemschools.org.
Sincerely,
Jody Monroe
Superintendent
