General Information

Course Fees

Continuing Education course fees vary as outlined in course descriptions. Regardless of base cost, non-residents must add $10 per course. Payment—in the form of a check or money order—must be submitted at the time of registration. Each registration must be for ONE course, for ONE person, with ONE check for that specific course. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH. In certain courses a limited number of free registrations will be made available to senior citizens (62 and older) who have a Bethlehem Central Senior Citizens Pass (available at the high school main office, 700 Delaware Ave, Delmar). Seniors must include a copy of their senior citizens pass with their registration form to receive the exemption. One exemption per semester, per person is allowed. Classes must have sufficient paid registrations for senior exemptions to be granted. Fees for materials and supplies should not be included with the course fee when you register but should be paid to the instructor when class meets.

Eligibility

Courses are open to all persons ages 21 or over, with the exception of SAT review courses. For courses accommodating a limited number of students, Bethlehem Central residents will have preference.

Registration must be made in advance.

  • Drop off your registration at the High School Counseling Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.
  • Registration received after Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 will not be accepted.

For both methods, please use the registration form provided (on the back page of the brochure). Please use separate checks for each class. Your check will not be deposited until classes start. You will NOT receive confirmation of registration. You will be notified only if the class is cancelled or if class limits have been exceeded. In both cases, your check will be returned.

Class Times and Locations

Most Continuing Education courses meet once a week, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., and last up to 10 weeks. Exceptions are noted within course descriptions. Please check the schedule of classes in which you are interested.

Most classes are held at Bethlehem High School, 700 Delaware Ave. Delmar, but some classes are held in other buildings. Note class locations in course descriptions.

Refunds

Refunds will be given if withdrawal from a class occurs before the start of the first class. Refunds will not be given for missed class sessions.

Cancellations and Rescheduled Classes

The Continuing Education Office may cancel courses with fewer than 12 registrants, since those courses may not meet expenses. In addition, we reserve the right to cancel/ reschedule classes due to unforeseen situations. Classes will not be held when school is not in session. Notification of cancellations due to weather will be given via local broadcast stations and the district website. You can also sign up to have school cancellations sent to you via e-mail through the district’s ParentSquare system.

No classes will be held Sept. 23, Oct. 2 and 13, or Nov. 11 and 26-28, 2025. There may be other dates when a specific class does not meet. Please see course listings. In most cases, class time lost due to weather cancellations will be made up at the end of the course.

Advanced Writing Workshop *NEW!*

Designed for writers with a foundational understanding of writing to deepen their skills and explore more complex techniques. Analysis of published works for advanced methods, such as narrative voice, tone, and pacing, and exercises and short assignments will aid in refining work and developing a unique and polished writing voice and style. Open to people with previous writing workshop experience. No senior exemptions. Limit of 20 students. No class November 27.

Adult Learn To Swim

This will be an introduction to swimming for non-swimmers (fearful swimmers). The course will focus on conquering your fear of the water and becoming confident in and around the water. This is a 5 week class, which meets twice per week. Limit of 12 students. No senior exemptions.

Ballroom Dancing I

Get out and have some fun learning to dance. Beginner Ballroom Dance Class will teach basics in Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha and Swing. Please no sneakers or rubber soled shoes. Partner necessary. Class in Cafeteria for the last two weeks. Limit of 20 couples. No class November 27.

Ballroom Dancing II

Keep up your dancing lessons in this Intermediate Ballroom Dance Class. This includes a review of what you learned in Ballroom I plus more in-depth lessons. Prerequisite of this class is taking Ballroom I and having a working knowledge of dances. Please no sneakers or rubber soled shoes. Partner necessary. Class in Cafeteria last two weeks. Become A Rotary Exchange Student And/Or Host Family *New!*

The informational course will cover the process for high school students to study abroad as outgoing Rotary Exchange students and for families to host exchange students. You will hear from previous host families about the benefits of hosting, specifically the unique experiences they had and the lifelong friendships gained for both the family and the exchange student. We will also present on the expectations of being a host family, as an outgoing exchange student, and the family of an outgoing exchange student. Parents and students are welcome to attend. Limit of 30 students.

Breathing for Health and Longevity *New!*

Yoga breathing is not just for yoga students and it is not taught only in yoga classes. Yoga breathing consists of different techniques that can be used by anyone at any age to improve their health and well being. It is strengthening and coordinating our breathing muscles and making the mind/body connection stronger. Some breath techniques help to balance the nervous system. Some techniques help to relax the body and others help to energize the body. In this workshop you will learn a variety of breathing techniques so that you can have a direct effect on your nervous system, stress level, sleep patterns, digestion, heart rate, and more. You will leave the workshop with techniques to begin utilizing immediately. You will also gain an awareness of your current breathing with breath tests that you can continue to use as a way of measuring your progress. This is not a yoga course. Limit of 25 students.

Cake Decorating Class

Learn a variety of techniques to make beautiful and fun cupcakes, in this sweet course. During the first class, we’ll cover the basics of assembling and using a piping bag and tips. Each participant will make three winter-themed cupcakes to take home. For the second week of class, we will dive into more advanced techniques, including flower piping and decorate flower cupcakes. All of the techniques taught can be used on cakes, as well! The instructor will provide all of the supplies, and each week participants will take home the cupcakes that they decorated during the course. Tara Connors began Bash Parties in 2013, which hosts in-home, activity-based events, including a cupcake-decorating themed party. Please bring a $25 materials fee to the first class. Cooking – Lebanese Cuisine I

Crochet

  • Location: High School – Room D136

This class will teach you the basics of crochet, as well as provide the opportunity to brush up on skills. We will learn how to read a crochet pattern and explore a variety of possible projects. Beginners – please bring a crochet hook, I, J or K and a skein of light-colored acrylic worsted weight yarn. Experienced crocheters – just bring whatever you are currently working on. Limit of 15 students. No class October 21 and November 11.

After the honeymoon period wears off, the next thing that begins to wear is your patience, tolerance, and happiness. How long do you stick with something you are not happy with? Happy Fall y’all! Get sweater weather ready with an autumn Grapevine Wreath. Bash Parties will bring all of the supplies for you to make an 18″ grapevine wreath complete with a variety of flowers and a wood cut out that reads “Hello Fall”, “happy fall y’all” or “Welcome”. We’ll provide instruction and help throughout the entire project. A $25 material fee is due to the instructor, Tara Connors. Mastering Your DSLR Camera

Stop using auto mode and get the most out of your DSLR or mirrorless camera! This course is for photographers with little or no experience with today’s digital cameras. We start with the basics and discuss how, when and where to change the settings on your camera. You will receive tips on composition and talk about what makes a great photograph. Become a master of the Exposure Triangle and learn how to stop action, capture motion, and purposefully create crisp or blurred backgrounds in your photographs (shutter speed, aperture). Oil Painting

This painting workshop is suitable for any level. Bring your own supplies and project ideas if you like. A materials list will be handed out the first night for those new to oils. Pastel Painting

Pastel painting combines the joy of drawing and painting in a way no other medium does. In this class we will explore different techniques and materials so students can create unique, personal, and exciting artwork. Piyo

Piyo is a fusion of Yoga and Pilates. This class will be taught by a certified Yoga instructor and draw upon various styles of yoga to build a practice with Pilates. Piyo techniques allow you to build a strong, lean, and flexible body while cultivating mental well-being. Bring a mat and a bottle of water to this class and wear comfortable clothing. Why do the Golden Years seem more like copper? Transitioning from an environment which has provided a lot of day-to-day structure, to having none, can be daunting. A study by David Evans in 2002 found that a significant number of retirees they researched experienced boredom. Additionally, adjusting to change impacted them in unexpected ways, yet more retirement workshops focus on financial planning. This workshop will help focus on what you find important in life and help begin the goal setting process toward a successful and fulfilling retirement. Limit of 30 students.

Swim Stroke Development

This is a stroke development class for the swimmer that is able to swim 25 yards and feels comfortable in deep water. The class will focus on building confidence and refining technique in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and elementary backstroke. It is not intended for advanced swimmers or those seeking continuous lap swimming. Limit of 12 students. No senior exemptions.

Talking to Your Young Adult About Their Next Life Steps *New!*

This introductory course will focus strictly on swing dancing, an American original. No previous dance experience needed. The first two classes will provide important foundational knowledge for the remainder of the course. Limit of 20 couples. No class November 26.

Watercolor Workshop

  • Location: High School – Room D125

Students with basic watercolor experience, intermediate and advanced levels are welcome. Through expressive interpretation of still life, landscape and figurative subjects, students will practice watercolor techniques including transparent wash, dry brush-on, wet-on-wet and resist while discovering their own artistic voice. A variety of painting styles will be explored. Students will also work on independent projects in discussion with the instructor. Limit of 20 students.

Woodworking (Beginning)

Acquaint yourself with woodworking through basic instruction in the use of hand and power tools. Activities will center on students’ projects of their choice. A small fee may be required for miscellaneous supplies and students must provide all materials for their projects, including: lumber, glue, sandpaper, etc. Intermediate students are welcome. Please, no skilled craftsmen wanting to use equipment for advanced sawing or planing. No senior exemptions. Limit of 12 students. No class November 26.

Yoga

  • Location: Hamagrael Elementary – Cafeteria/Auditorium

This class will focus on the development of body awareness and alignment, flexibility and strength training through the practice of the physical poses of Yoga known as Asanas. Tone and strengthen your muscles, ligaments, joints and nerves. Support and maintain the smooth functioning and health of all of the body’s systems. Dress in comfortable clothes that allow stretching and bring a yoga mat and blanket. Please refrain from eating a heavy meal two hours prior to class. Limit of 50 students.

Zumba Toning is a dance-fitness class that combines the energy of Zumba with a focus on strength training and muscle toning. It uses light weights to add resistance to the movements, enhancing rhythm and coordination while sculpting targeted areas like arms, core, and legs. If you love Zumba, this is a great addition to your fitness routine. If you have never tried Zumba or worry that you have two left feet, this is a great way to get started! Please bring zumba toning sticks, 1, 2 or 3 lb weights or two water bottles for weights. Limit of 40 students. No class October 16 or November 27.
