Bethlehem Central believes that participation in sports provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences that assist students in their education. Accordingly, the district offers students opportunities to participate in more than 20 sports across three seasons. The district is a member of the New York State Athletic Association, competing as a Class A school in Section II. BC’s league affiliation is with the Suburban Scholastic Council, competing in the Council’s south division.

Bethlehem Central School district is excited to announce that we will be offering the convenience of online sports registration through FamilyID beginning with the fall 2022 sports season.

The fall season begins in August:

  • August 22, 2022: High school fall sports
  • August 29, 2022: Middle school fall sports

All registrations/sign-ups for the upcoming fall 2022 season will be completed online through the new FamilyID platform. Registration for high school sports will open on Saturday, July 23, 2022 and on Saturday, July 30, 2022 for the middle school.

Step-by-step instructions on how to use Family ID will be shared with families the week prior to the opening of the sign-up windows in July.

FamilyID is a secure registration platform that will offer families an easy, user-friendly way to register for athletics, and helps make the process more efficient with less printing and less paper. When you register through FamilyID, the system keeps track of your information in your FamilyID profile. You will be able to enter your information only once for each family member for multiple uses and multiple programs.

Watch your email for more detailed information about Fall 2022 Sports Sign-Ups the week of July 18.

Athletic Placement Process

The intent of the Athletic Placement Process (formerly Selection Classification) is to provide for students in grades 7 through 12 a mechanism allowing them to participate safely at an appropriate level of competition based upon readiness rather than age and grade. Students do not mature at the same rate and there can be a tremendous range of developmental differences between students of the same age. The program is not to be used to fill positions on teams, provide additional experience, provide a place for junior high students when no modified program is offered, or reward a student. Instead, it is aimed at the few select students who can benefit from such placement because of their level of readiness. It will also be fairer to other students on the modified teams. This State Education program extends the high school eligibility of middle school students who are qualified.

A Board of Education may permit pupils in grades no lower than seventh to compete on any senior high school team, or permit senior high pupils to compete on any teams in grades no lower than seventh, provided the pupils are placed at levels of competition appropriate to their physiological maturity, physical fitness and skills in relationship to other pupils on those teams in accordance with standards established by the NYS Commissioner of Education – Commissioner’s Regulation Section 135.4 (c)(7)(ii)(a)(4). To learn more about the APP, follow the links below or contact the Director of Athletics, Len Kies, at (518) 439-4921 ext. 22113.
