BC plans for use of federal COVID funding (2021-2024)

The district’s plan for the federal coronavirus relief funds it has been allocated will focus on health and wellness, addressing learning loss and investing in flexible learning environments for students. The draft plan was presented at the June 16 Board of Education meeting.

Public comments are being accepted on the plan in advance of the district’s submission of the plan to the state. Comments should be directed to districtoffice@bethlehemschools.org.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Coronavirus Recovery and Relief Supplemental Act (CRRSA) and the American Rescue Plan (ARP) contained funding that schools across the nation can use over the coming two to three years in light of the impact the pandemic has had on education. Bethlehem has been awarded a total of $6,181,623 million in these one-time funds to be used over the next three years.

The district’s plan for using these funds covers several areas: addressing learning loss due to COVID; health and safety measures; more flexible learning spaces; and furniture and equipment.

In the enacted state budget, lawmakers decided that these funds should be used to supplement state aid and not to replace state aid. Therefore, the district has developed a plan to meet the targeted needs of the Bethlehem Central School District community with the federal funds.

Documents and plans will be posted below, along with periodic updates to the plan as needed.
